Hello
My name is Jessica Richmond and I am a registered Psychotherapist in Hong Kong and in Canada. I have several years experience working as a registered psychotherapist and over 12 years experience working with teenagers in the role of a mentor and coach. My role as a mentor and coach inspired me to get my degree in psychotherapy as I witnessed the immense needs of the adolescent population. I am truly passionate about helping adolescents and young adults overcome the challenges they are experiencing to become healthy and thriving individuals.
About Me
I am originally from Canada and moved to Hong Kong as a young adult. I love to read and learn. On my desk at any given time you will find 3-5 novels in progress and my browser open to several different lectures. I am constantly enrolling in different trainings to better equip myself to meet the needs of my clients. It may also be because I am intensely curious about the world and have hunger to understand how and why things work the way they do.
I take a posture of curiosity when it comes to my therapy practice. You as the client are the expert of your experience and I am a sojourner with you as we collaborate to help you achieve your goals. I also value taking a multicultural approach as I myself live in a multicultural city, but am also married to someone of a different race. Learning to appreciate and walk in the cultural of another is a gift and I am constantly learning how our cultural frameworks impact who we each are as individuals today.
In my practice, I really enjoying working with adolescents, teenagers, and young adults. As an adolescent I experienced a turbulent upbringing and longed to have a safe space where I could share what I was experiencing. This upbringing makes me passionate about providing a safe space for others to share and work through the intricacies of their life. It is unfortunate that so many people feel unknown. In my practice I strive to truly see clients and help them to feel safe and known, giving them the tools to replicate this experience with others.
I also collaborate with Hong Kong Dignity Institute and provide counselling services to migrants, assylum seekers, and the marginalized here in Hong Kong. This work has helped me to see the importance of taking a trauma informed approach and encourages me to be active in making society a place where everyone is seen, valued, and treated equally.
